When you think of loyalty rewards in online betting, you expect perks that make sticking around worthwhile. South African players, in particular, are spoiled for choice, with bookmakers like Easybet and 10bet pushing generous promos to retain their customers. Betway, one of the biggest names in the industry, has its own loyalty system called Betway Benefits. But does it really reward loyal players, or is it just smoke and mirrors?

What is Betway Benefits?
Betway Benefits is the operator’s official loyalty program. It’s designed to give players added value in the form of:
- Bet Savers – rewards that protect your stake on certain bets.
- Win Boosts – enhanced winnings on select markets.
- Bet Influencer Rewards – small incentives for player engagement. We’ve gone into the Betway bet influencer in more detail in a seperate article.
- Bonus Spins and Flights – casino and arcade-style freebies.
In theory, it’s meant to cover both sports bettors and casino players, keeping everyone engaged with a steady flow of extras.

Putting Betway Benefits to the Test
Over several months, I put Betway Benefits under the microscope. With deposits well into the tens of thousands of rand and consistent weekly betting, I expected to see the program kick into gear.
The results were… underwhelming.
Here’s what I received after three months of serious play:
- 5 Free Flights valued at just R1 each.
- Weekly bundles of 10 Free Spins worth R0.75 each.
That’s it. No meaningful cashback, no tier-based perks, no personalised offers. For the level of play and deposits involved, the returns were so low they felt like an afterthought.
How to earn Betway rewards
Betway Rewards makes every bet count by letting players earn points with every wager placed, which can then be converted into real cash at any time. Each point is worth R1, and once converted, the funds go directly into your Betway cash balance where they can be wagered again or withdrawn. The system is simple: the more you play, the more you earn. However, it’s important to note that any points not converted within 180 days of being accumulated will expire, so players should keep track of their rewards to make the most of the program.
How Does it Compare?
Compared to its South African rivals, Betway’s loyalty system feels thin.
- Easybet dishes out regular Free Spins and cashback tied to leaderboard competitions.
- 10bet offers layered rewards, including reload bonuses and cashback schemes tailored to player behaviour.
- Hollywoodbets, while not perfect, still manages to run ongoing campaigns that feel more substantial than a handful of micro Free Spins.
With Betway Benefits, unless you’re depositing and wagering at levels of R100,000+ monthly, you’re unlikely to see anything resembling VIP treatment.
Where Betway Gets it Right
It’s not all bad news. Betway has some niche loyalty perks worth noting:
- Tote Rewards: players betting on horse racing receive 6% cashback monthly on settled Tote bets.
- Tax Scratch: refunds on the 6% tax applied to horse racing winnings.
These are attractive if you’re a horse racing enthusiast, but they don’t extend much beyond that.
Player Sentiment
South African player feedback lines up with my own experience. Reviews on sites like Trustpilot and local forums point to frustration with the loyalty rewards. Many feel the “Benefits” don’t match Betway’s size or reputation, especially when competitors are actively competing for loyalty with generous, tangible perks.
Final Thoughts on Betway Benefits
Betway South Africa remains a polished, premium platform for sports and casino betting. But if loyalty rewards are what you’re after, Betway Benefits doesn’t deliver the goods. The program feels more symbolic than rewarding, with tiny giveaways that don’t come close to matching the expectations of regular or high-volume players. Unless you’re betting on horse racing and taking advantage of Tote Rewards, Betway Benefits will likely leave you disappointed. For now, Betway looks great on the outside, but when it comes to rewarding loyalty, South African players may find more value elsewhere.
